Embroidery

My embroidery project had been ongoing for several years in that I would embroider a block or two and then set it aside.  I bought the stamped squares several years ago.  One of my favorite flowers is the royal purple iris.  I also like the yellow iris.  There were 6 squares in each package and I purchased 5 packages giving me a total of 30 quilt blocks.  I originally intended to embroider all 30 blocks but that changed when two things happened.  First, the blocks are 18" square.  Second, the person that does my quilting told me her machine can handle up to 90" or so wide.  Any length is okay.  So in doing the math, using all the squares, accommodating the long arm quilting machine, it would make it a longer quilt with a narrow width.  I want to sash the blocks with a purple fabric and have yellow and green pinwheel blocks as cornerstones.  I want to draw on the colors used in the embroidered blocks.  So having come to that conclusion, I passed on one full package of the blocks to another quilter along with a few blocks from another package.  I have completed embroidering all the blocks that I want to use for my quilt top.  Would like to cross this off my to do list.

In doing the first couple of blocks, I used just my embroidery hoop.  Than I had the idea of using my Lowery floor frame and a q-snap frame.  I did the X's and then put the fabric in a hoop to finish the embroidery outlining stitches. I liked using a floor frame because I could stitch using both hands.  Made it easier and quicker for me plus the stand held my hoop or q-snap frame.
